Telemedicine mHealth Kit - A Revolutionary Idea ! Telemedicine is a rapidly developing application of clinical medicine where medical information is transferred through ICT for the purpose of consulting, remote medical procedures or examinations. Telemedicine may be as simple as two health professionals discussing a case over the telephone, or as complex as using satellite technology and videoconferencing equipment to conduct a real-time consultation between medical specialists on earth and in outer space. Telemedicine generally refers to the use of communications and information technologies for the delivery of clinical care.

Primary Health Care as defined by the World Health Organization in 1978 is:
essential health care; based on practical, scientifically sound, and socially acceptable method and technology; universally accessible to all in the community through their full participation; at an affordable cost; and geared toward self-reliance and self-determination (WHO & UNICEF, 1978).

The first interactive Telemedicine system, operating over standard telephone lines, for remotely diagnosing and treating patients requiring cardiac resuscitation (defibrillation) was first developed and marketed in 1989. A year later a mobile cellular version was launched. Since then the technology has developed leaps & bound. Fuelled by the simultaneous growth of Internet the Telemedicine technology has become an important healthcare tool. To make it affordable to all, the government of India research initiatives in Telemedicine has resulted in the design, development & integration of low cost telemedicine equipment by School of Telemedicine and Bioinformatics, SGPGI, Lucknow. The product is called 'mHealth4U'
